Abstract

David Rokeby is a prominent Canadian artist known for his exploration of interactive and computer-based artwork. The common view in relation to artistic action and the perception of the audience is that the artist leaves his mark in a certain object or message (artwork) and some others, including the receivers, the general public, and the critics perceive, see, and see it. They read and interpret and evaluate. However, the emerging technological and cultural environment in the new era, by denying the distinction between publication and reception, creation and interpretation, causes the emergence of new types of art. These new types allow audiences who are no longer real audiences to experience other methods, such as interaction, communication and creation. This changes the audience from a passive and merely receiving state to an active one. Rokeby's perspective on the interactive action of the audience with computer art emphasizes the role of the participant as an active collaborator in the process of creation and meaning making. In this research, the key aspects of the interactive action of the audience of computer art have been investigated and analyzed from the perspective of a rider. The purpose of this thesis is to get an analysis of coherent and model-oriented thinking and to benefit from it in the planning and implementation of contemporary computer arts with an emphasis on active interaction with the audience. The current research is of a theoretical type and has answered this question with a descriptive-analytical method and with a qualitative approach and using library and electronic documents: "What are the components of the interactive action of the audience of computer arts from David Rokeby's point of view?" The findings of the research indicate that David Rokeby's view on the interactive action of the audience with computer art emphasizes active interaction, embodied interaction, dialogue, co-creation, reflection and technology mediation.
